Pool Footprint Landscape Transformation in Simsbury, CT
This project focused on transforming the footprint of a previously removed pool into a clean, functional, and visually balanced landscape. The pool had been taken out to expand the usable yard space, and we were brought in to reclaim and reshape the remaining footprint into a finished lawn below with a structured garden area above.

Approach and Challenges

Work began by excavating and correcting the former pool area, which required removing portions of the existing sand base left behind after the pool removal. Once the subgrade was properly prepared, a thick layer of fresh topsoil was installed to support long-term lawn health, followed by grass planting to establish the lower portion of the yard.
To create a clean transition between elevations, custom faux railroad ties were fabricated in-house and installed to closely match the existing, well-seasoned ties already on the property. This ensured continuity with the surrounding landscape while providing structure and durability.
The upper portion of the site was previously untamed and heavily infested with viable roots, requiring clearing before any finishing work could begin. After preparation, fresh brown mulch was installed to define the garden area and bring the space under control.
New irrigation was installed during the course of our work to support the newly established lawn. Minor hardscape elements were also touched up to better align with the updated layout and overall aesthetic.
Finished Result

The completed project successfully reclaimed the former pool footprint and integrated it into the expanded yard. The new lawn provides a clean, usable space, while the upper garden area adds structure and visual contrast. Custom ties and refreshed hardscape details help tie the entire landscape together, resulting in a cohesive and polished finish that complements the property.
