Emergency Snow Hauling in Winsted, CT
Overview & Scope
The client contacted us with an emergency request following an overnight storm and subsequent state plow operations that pushed large volumes of snow and ice toward onto the front sidewalk. Approximately three feet of compacted material accumulated and froze in place, blocking the front entrance of the commercial site. In addition to restricting customer and pedestrian access, the buildup was impeding the business parking areas and limiting safe access. Due to the volume, density, and frozen conditions, the situation required full snow and ice removal rather than relocation on site.
Approach and Challenges

After evaluating the site conditions, we coordinated equipment and manpower and mobilized within 48 hours. Because of the location of the snow, a partial closure of the adjacent busy roadway was required for crews to safely operate machinery in the roadway and complete the work. The frozen accumulation was first broken up and hauled off site for proper disposal due to space limitations on this site, all while coordinating closely around active pedestrian movement and nearby traffic. At the same time, the business remained open and operational, with the affected area serving as the only entrance and exit for patrons.
Work was carefully sequenced to allow continued customer access while removal operations were underway. Equipment movements and hauling were timed and staged to minimize interference with foot traffic, and crews actively managed the work zone to maintain clear, safe pathways for patrons entering and exiting the building.

Finished Result
​
All snow and ice were fully removed from the entrance, sidewalk, parking areas, and affected access points. The pedestrian walkway was restored to bare concrete, access to and from street parking was reopened, and normal vehicle and foot traffic were safely re-established. The property was returned to full operation, with customer access and safety restored despite the severity of the conditions and the operational challenges of working around an active business.
